Sarah Osborn Benjamin accompanied her husband's New York regiment during the final years of the Revolution. Like many women attached to armies, she performed essential paid and unpaid labor by washing, sewing, cooking, and baking bread. Her later recollections included standing a sentry watch at Kingsbridge and carrying food to troops during the siege of Yorktown. Although details were recorded decades afterward, her testimony preserves the mobility, danger, and labor of women who traveled with military units and whose work sustained soldiers in camp and on campaign.
