HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Samaipata Fort (El Fuerte de Samaipata).
The site preserves the great carved sandstone outcrop known as El Fuerte, with channels, niches, and seats cut into the living rock, along with the stone foundations of surrounding pre-Inca and Inca structures, most of their original superstructures long gone. It is a World Heritage Site under the protection of Bolivian national heritage authorities. The archaeological park is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Samaipata Fort (El Fuerte de Samaipata)
El Fuerte de Samaipata centers on a sandstone outcrop carved with channels, seats, and niches by peoples of Bolivia beginning around the third century CE. The Inca later incorporated it into their empire, adding terraces and structures for ceremonial and administrative use. Despite its name, the site served as a religious center rather than a military fort.
