HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Royal Site of Aranjuez (Jardín de la Isla & Jardín del Príncipe).

The Jardín de la Isla and Jardín del Príncipe preserve their historic layouts, fountains, statuary, and mature tree plantings largely as laid out for the Spanish royal court, forming part of the Aranjuez cultural landscape World Heritage Site. The gardens are owned and administered by Patrimonio Nacional, the Spanish state body that manages former royal properties. They are generally open to the public and freely accessible.

About Royal Site of Aranjuez (Jardín de la Isla & Jardín del Príncipe)

Spanish monarchs developed Aranjuez as a royal residence and hunting ground from the sixteenth century onward, laying out the Jardín de la Isla along the Tagus River. Later monarchs added the Jardín del Príncipe, expanding the grounds with fountains, sculpture, and rare plantings. The gardens formed part of one of Spain's principal royal estates.
