HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Rosetta (Rashid) Historic Town.

The town retains a notable concentration of Ottoman-era merchant houses built of alternating brick and stone, along with historic mosques and hammams along the Nile, several of which have been restored as house museums. It falls under the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The historic quarter is freely accessible as a living town, with selected houses open to visitors on a ticketed basis.

About Rosetta (Rashid) Historic Town

Rosetta developed as a Nile Delta port town under medieval Islamic and later Ottoman rule, growing into a major center of trade between Egypt and the Mediterranean world. Its merchants built distinctive brick houses that reflected the town's Ottoman-era prosperity. Nearby, French soldiers discovered the Rosetta Stone in 1799, the key to deciphering hieroglyphs.
