HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Rose Hill Cemetery.
The cemetery preserves its nineteenth century landscaped design, original headstones, monuments, and mausoleums set on terraced grounds above the Ocmulgee River. It is owned and maintained by the City of Macon and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cemetery remains in active use as a burial ground and is freely open to the public throughout the year.
About Rose Hill Cemetery
Rose Hill Cemetery was established in 1840 as a landscaped municipal burying ground for Macon, Georgia. It became the resting place for Confederate soldiers and prominent citizens, and later for members of the Allman Brothers Band. The cemetery reflected the nineteenth-century rural cemetery movement's blend of landscaped grounds and civic memorial space.
