HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Roman Theatre, Volterra.
The site preserves the remains of a Roman theater, including tiers of stone seating, the orchestra, and column bases from the stage building, along with adjacent Roman bath ruins nearby. It is managed by Italian state archaeological authorities in conjunction with the municipality of Volterra. The ruins are open to the public on a ticketed basis, viewable from an overlook above the excavation.
About Roman Theatre, Volterra
The Roman theatre at Volterra was built in the late first century BCE under Augustus to host dramatic performances for the town of Volaterrae. It stood beside public baths as part of the town's civic and leisure quarter. The complex fell out of use by late antiquity, and its stones were later reused elsewhere in the town.
