HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Roman Theatre of Mandeure, Doubs.

Substantial remains of the theater's cavea substructure, retaining walls, and portions of the stage building survive, making it one of the largest known Roman theaters in Gaul, though much of its seating and decorative facing has been lost. It is a scheduled historic monument owned by the commune of Mandeure. The ruins lie in open ground and are freely accessible to visitors.

About Roman Theatre of Mandeure, Doubs

Built in the first century CE for the Gallo-Roman town of Epomanduodurum, the theater was among the largest in Roman Gaul, seating a large audience. It hosted public performances and civic gatherings for the settlement along the Doubs river. Its scale reflected the prosperity of Roman Gaul's provincial towns during the early empire.
