HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Roman Theatre of Málaga.
The site preserves the excavated remains of a Roman theater, including its semicircular seating tiers, orchestra, and portions of the stage building, uncovered beneath later structures at the foot of the Alcazaba. It is managed by the regional government of Andalusia in coordination with the Málaga municipal authorities as an archaeological monument. The ruins are freely accessible to the public with an adjoining interpretation center.
About Roman Theatre of Málaga
The Roman Theatre of Málaga was built in the first century BCE, during the reign of Augustus, to host dramatic and civic performances for the Roman colony of Malaca. It remained in use into the early imperial period before falling out of use. Moorish builders later reused its stones in constructing the Alcazaba fortress.
