Rocky River Baptist Church provided meeting space for Regulators after 1768 as backcountry residents protested corrupt fees, taxes, and courthouse officials. The movement culminated in defeat at Alamance in 1771. During the Revolution the same region divided between Whig and Loyalist militia. The church landscape thus connects religious community, prewar political protest, and the civil conflict that followed independence.
