HISTORIC PRESERVATION at River Antoine Rum Distillery.
The distillery preserves its original waterwheel, cane crushing mill, and copper boiling and fermentation vats, which remain in working order as one of the last functioning water powered rum distilleries in the Caribbean. It operates under private ownership as a working estate rather than as a static monument. The grounds and production areas are open to visitors, generally through guided tours.
About River Antoine Rum Distillery
River Antoine Estate was established as a sugar plantation and rum distillery in 1785 on Grenada's windward coast. It used a water wheel, fed by a volcanic crater lake, to crush sugarcane and power its machinery. The distillery supplied rum for local consumption and regional trade, becoming one of the Caribbean's earliest sugar-era rum producers.
