About Ritchey Hotel, 1886
The Ritchey Hotel was built in 1886 of frame and adobe facing the old cattle loading pens on the Southern Pacific Railway in Alpine, Texas. It provided lodging and a saloon for cowhands and ranchers shipping cattle from the scattered ranches of the Big Bend country. It thus served the region's cattle trade at a key rail shipping point.
