HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Reginald's Tower & Viking Triangle.

Reginald's Tower, a massive round stone tower rebuilt in its present form in the thirteenth century on Viking foundations, survives essentially intact as the oldest civic building in Ireland, standing at the heart of the Viking Triangle, Waterford's medieval quarter. The tower is managed by Waterford City and County Council as a museum, while the surrounding historic quarter remains in mixed public and private ownership. The tower is open on a ticketed basis, with the surrounding streets freely accessible.

About Reginald's Tower & Viking Triangle

Reginald's Tower stands on the site of a Viking fortification at Waterford, a city the Vikings founded in the tenth century, and the present stone tower dates largely from the thirteenth century. It served over the centuries as a mint, an armory, and a prison for the town. The tower anchored the eastern corner of Waterford's medieval walls.
