The Reggia di Venaria survives as an extensively restored Baroque palace, including the Great Gallery, the royal apartments, and formal gardens, after a major renovation returned long derelict wings to public use. It is part of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy, a World Heritage Site, and is managed by a regional consortium on behalf of the Piedmont region. The palace and gardens are open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Reggia di Venaria
The Reggia di Venaria was built beginning in the 1660s for Duke Charles Emmanuel II of Savoy as a hunting lodge outside Turin, designed by architect Amedeo di Castellamonte. It formed part of a ring of grand residences the Savoy dukes built around their capital to display dynastic power. The palace and gardens were later expanded by subsequent Savoy rulers.
