HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Recanati (Leopardi's birthplace).
The site preserves Palazzo Leopardi, the family residence where the poet Giacomo Leopardi was born, including the extensive library assembled by his father Monaldo Leopardi. The palace remains in the ownership of the Leopardi family and operates as a house museum and library. It is open to the public through guided tours of selected rooms and the historic library.
About Recanati (Leopardi's birthplace)
Recanati grew as a hill town in the Marche region, first fortified and settled around the twelfth century under local feudal and later papal authority. It became renowned as the birthplace in 1798 of the poet Giacomo Leopardi, who was born into a noble local family. The town served as a center of literary culture within the Papal States.
