HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Real Fábrica de Tapices.

The Real Fábrica de Tapices occupies its historic eighteenth century factory building, where original manufacturing spaces and equipment associated with tapestry weaving survive, and it continues to operate as a working tapestry workshop rather than a ruin. It is a state-associated cultural institution under Spanish heritage authorities. It is open to the public by guided tour on a ticketed basis.

About Real Fábrica de Tapices

The Real Fábrica de Tapices was founded in Madrid in 1721 under King Philip V to produce woven tapestries for the Spanish royal palaces, following Flemish manufacturing traditions. In the later eighteenth century, painters including Francisco Goya supplied cartoon designs for its looms. The factory supported royal patronage of the decorative arts for generations.
