About Röcken Churchyard

Friedrich Nietzsche is buried in the family grave beside the village church in Röcken, where he was born and baptized.

The Nietzsche memorial society and local heritage partners interpret the birthplace, church setting and grave as connected memorial places.

History happened here at Röcken Churchyard

Nietzsche was born in Röcken in 1844, the son of the village pastor. The church, family home and nearby memorial landscape preserve his early-life setting.

After his death in 1900, Nietzsche was buried in the family grave on the south side of the village church. A separate memorial museum presents his childhood and family history.
