The Queen's House survives largely intact as Inigo Jones's seventeenth century classical building, including its cube hall, tulip stairs, and original room proportions, though the interior decoration and painted ceilings have been altered or added over time. It is owned by the Greenwich Foundation and operated as part of Royal Museums Greenwich, and the building is a Grade I listed structure within the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. It is open to the public as a free-entry art museum.
About Queen's House, Greenwich, London
The Queen's House at Greenwich was begun around 1616 for Anne of Denmark, queen consort of James I, to a design by architect Inigo Jones. Completed under Henrietta Maria in the 1630s, it was England's first building in the classical Palladian style. It later housed royal art collections and influenced later English architecture.
