HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Qasr Libya.

The site preserves the ruins of a Byzantine-era church, along with a purpose-built museum structure housing its renowned mosaic pavements depicting mythological and geographical scenes, lifted from the original floor for protection and display. It falls under the authority of Libya's department of antiquities. Public access is limited and typically requires arrangement through local antiquities officials rather than independent visits.

About Qasr Libya

Qasr Libya occupied the site of the ancient town of Olbia in Cyrenaica and was fortified under Byzantine rule in the sixth century as a defensive stronghold. A church built within its walls held an elaborate mosaic pavement discovered in 1957, depicting cities, seasons, and the Nile. It illustrated the fusion of classical and Christian art in Byzantine Libya.
