HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Qasr Bshir.
The site preserves one of the best-preserved Roman military forts of the Arabian limes, with its four corner towers, curtain walls, and main gateway standing to considerable height and largely unrestored. It lies under the care of Jordan's Department of Antiquities. The fort still stands in open desert and is freely accessible without ticketing or facilities.
About Qasr Bshir
The Roman army built Qasr Bshir in the Jordanian desert as a fortified garrison post, likely in the late third or early fourth century, part of the eastern frontier system known as the Limes Arabicus. It followed a square fort design with corner towers typical of the region. It helped secure trade routes and monitor movement along the frontier.
