Qasr Al Hosn preserves its coral rock and coral stone inner watchtower, believed to be among the oldest stone structures in Abu Dhabi, along with the surrounding whitewashed outer fort walls added in a later phase, both restored. It is managed by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi. The fort is open to the public as a museum and cultural site.
About Qasr Al Hosn
Qasr Al Hosn began around 1761 as a watchtower built by the Bani Yas to guard Abu Dhabi's only freshwater well. It was expanded into a fort and palace in the eighteenth century under the ruling Al Nahyan family, becoming their residence and seat of government. The fort served as the political center of Abu Dhabi for two centuries.
