The site preserves excavated remains of a Roman-era town, including mosaic-paved houses, a forum area, bath buildings, and a necropolis with vaulted tombs, exposed as ruins in open ground rather than reconstructed or rebuilt. It is administered by Tunisia's National Heritage Institute as a protected archaeological site. It is open to visitors on a ticketed basis.
About Pupput
Phoenician and later Roman settlers occupied Pupput, on the Tunisian coast near Hammamet, from around the first century BCE as a coastal trading town within Rome's African provinces. The town grew to include residential quarters, public baths, and a large necropolis with decorated tombs. Its development reflected the prosperity of Roman coastal North Africa.
