The stone house, built in the fifteenth century as a canon's manse, survives as the oldest dwelling in Glasgow, along with an adjoining herb garden laid out in a later period. It is owned by Glasgow City Council and operated as a museum through Glasgow Life. The house and garden are freely open to the public.
About Provand's Lordship
Provand's Lordship was built in 1471 as a manse to house clergy connected to St Nicholas's Hospital, near Glasgow Cathedral. It later passed through a succession of owners and served as an ordinary private residence for several centuries. As one of Glasgow's earliest buildings tied to the cathedral, it reflected the city's early ecclesiastical life.
