Preston Battlefield in Lancashire was the site of a battle fought in August 1648, during the Second English Civil War. Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army there defeated a Scottish Engager army under the Duke of Hamilton, which had invaded England in support of Charles I. The victory broke the Engagers' campaign, hastening royalist collapse before the king's execution.
