HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Pozzuoli.

The site preserves the Flavian Amphitheater's substructures, the so called Temple of Serapis macellum with its distinctive bored columns showing evidence of bradyseism, and other Roman ruins set within the volcanic Campi Flegrei area, with much surviving only as foundations and partial walls. It is managed by the Italian Ministry of Culture through the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park authority. The site is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Pozzuoli

Pozzuoli originated as the Greek colony of Dicaearchia, traditionally founded around 530 BCE by exiles from Samos on the Bay of Naples. The Romans later refounded it as Puteoli in 194 BCE, developing it into their chief commercial port for trade with Egypt and the eastern Mediterranean. The city grew wealthy from shipping and warehouses.
