HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Powerscourt Estate.

Powerscourt Estate preserves its nineteenth century Palladian style mansion, rebuilt after a serious fire, along with its extensive formal terraced gardens, statuary, and a waterfall on the wider estate grounds, with little medieval fabric from the estate's earlier origins surviving above ground. It is privately owned and operated by the Slazenger family through the Powerscourt estate company. The gardens and house facilities are open to the public on a ticketed basis, while the waterfall is a separate ticketed attraction nearby.

About Powerscourt Estate

The Anglo-Norman le Poer family built a castle at Powerscourt in the thirteenth century to control the surrounding Wicklow territory. In the 1730s and 1740s, Richard Cassels transformed the medieval structure into a grand Palladian mansion for the Wingfield family, Viscounts Powerscourt, who laid out extensive formal gardens. The estate exemplified Anglo-Irish landscape design.
