HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Poblet Monastery.

The monastery preserves its Cistercian church, cloisters, chapter house, dormitory, and royal pantheon within a fortified perimeter, with some ranges having undergone significant restoration after periods of abandonment. It belongs to the Catholic church and functions as an active Cistercian monastery, and the complex is also a World Heritage Site. It is open to the public on a guided or ticketed basis, with parts remaining closed as a working monastery.

About Poblet Monastery

Poblet Monastery was founded in 1151 by Cistercian monks under the patronage of Ramon Berenguer IV, Count of Barcelona, as part of the order's expansion into newly reconquered Catalonia. It grew into one of the wealthiest monasteries in the Crown of Aragon. From the fourteenth century it served as the royal pantheon of the kings of Aragon.
