King Street, Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas
New Providence, Bahamas
HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Pirates of Nassau Museum.
The museum occupies a modern, purpose-built structure containing a full-scale replica pirate ship, reconstructed period streetscapes, and rooms of exhibits, models, and artifacts illustrating the era of piracy in Nassau, rather than any surviving historic fabric on the site itself. It is a privately owned and operated museum in downtown Nassau. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis, with exhibits arranged across several themed rooms.
About Pirates of Nassau Museum
Nassau on New Providence Island served as a pirate haven, hosting figures such as Edward Teach, known as Blackbeard, and Charles Vane during the early eighteenth century. The weakly governed port let pirate crews raid Caribbean shipping lanes and divide their plunder ashore. Britain moved to suppress this activity when it installed Woodes Rogers as royal governor in 1718.
