About Pioneer School House
The Pioneer School House was built in the late nineteenth century to serve children of the ranching and railroad community that grew up around Marathon in the Trans-Pecos region of Texas. It functioned as a one-room school offering basic education to settlers' children. It represented the small rural schoolhouses that provided public education across the sparsely populated Texas frontier.
