HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Pinacoteca di Brera.

The gallery occupies the historic Palazzo di Brera, itself largely intact, and holds an extensive collection of Italian paintings spanning the medieval to modern periods, notably strong in Venetian and Lombard works. It is a state museum administered under Italy's Ministry of Culture. The galleries are open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Pinacoteca di Brera

Empress Maria Theresa of Austria founded the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan in 1776, with an associated gallery to train and inspire artists. Napoleon later enriched its collection with paintings taken from churches and suppressed religious houses across northern Italy. It became one of Italy's principal public collections of Renaissance and Baroque painting.
