HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Pendennis Castle.

The site preserves the round keep and gun platform built for Henry VIII in the sixteenth century, its surrounding curtain wall and bastions, and further artillery batteries and magazines added during the Second World War. It is managed by English Heritage. The castle and its grounds are open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Pendennis Castle

Pendennis Castle was built by Henry VIII around 1540 as part of a chain of artillery forts guarding the coast against French and Spanish invasion. It paired with St Mawes Castle to guard the entrance to Falmouth harbor. During the English Civil War it held out as a Royalist stronghold, enduring a siege before its surrender to Parliamentary forces.
