Pelusium survives mainly as an extensive, largely unexcavated and eroded archaeological mound with scattered ruins of walls, a fortress, and church remains, much of it fragmentary and affected by the shifting coastal terrain. The site falls under the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. It exists as an open archaeological site with limited formal visitor facilities.
About Pelusium, Egypt
Pelusium was a fortified port city at the easternmost mouth of the Nile that guarded Egypt's frontier with the Sinai from ancient times. It was the site of the Persian conquest of Egypt under Cambyses in 525 BCE, and lay near where the Roman general Pompey was later killed. It served as a military station on Egypt's eastern frontier.
