HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Pella.

Pella preserves an extensive tell with remains spanning Bronze Age through Islamic periods, including Roman and Byzantine era church foundations, colonnaded street sections, and an odeon, mostly consolidated ruins rather than reconstructed structures. The site is administered by Jordan's Department of Antiquities. It lies in open ground and is freely accessible to visitors.

About Pella

Pella was inhabited from the Neolithic period and grew into a major Bronze Age and Iron Age city in the Jordan Valley. It flourished as a Hellenistic and Roman city, one of the ten cities of the Decapolis, and later served as an early Christian bishopric. An earthquake in 749 devastated the settlement, ending its role as an urban center.
