About Pampulha Modern Ensemble
The Pampulha Modern Ensemble was designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, with landscaping by Roberto Burle Marx, and built in the early 1940s around an artificial lake for Belo Horizonte's mayor, Juscelino Kubitschek. It comprised a casino, a ballroom, a yacht club, and the Church of São Francisco de Assis. The complex marked an early expression of Brazilian modernist architecture.
