The Renaissance suburban villa designed by Giulio Romano survives largely intact, including its frescoed Sala dei Giganti and Sala di Psiche and its enclosing courtyards and gardens. It is owned by the municipality of Mantua and forms part of the Mantua and Sabbioneta World Heritage Site. The palazzo operates as a museum open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Palazzo Te
Palazzo Te was built between 1524 and 1534 by the architect Giulio Romano for Federico II Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua, as a suburban pleasure villa. It served as a retreat for entertainment and banquets, famed for the illusionistic frescoes of the Sala dei Giganti. The building became a landmark of early Mannerist architecture in Italy.
