HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Palazzo Reale.

The palace preserves its seventeenth-century facade lined with statues of the kings of Naples, along with the royal apartments, court theater, and grand staircase, largely intact from successive royal and Bourbon-era refurbishments. It is owned by the Italian state and managed by the Ministry of Culture as a national museum, and it also houses the National Library. The state apartments are open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Palazzo Reale

The Palazzo Reale in Naples was built in the early seventeenth century, designed by architect Domenico Fontana, originally as a residence for Spanish viceroys ruling the Kingdom of Naples. It later became a royal palace for the Bourbon kings of Naples, housing court functions and state ceremonies. The palace stood as a seat of political power in southern Italy.
