The Renaissance ducal palace survives largely intact, including its courtyard, facade with twin turrets, and the studiolo with its inlaid wood paneling, and now houses the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche. It is Italian state property administered by the Ministry of Culture. The palace and its collections are open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Palazzo Ducale
The Palazzo Ducale at Urbino was built in the mid to late fifteenth century for Federico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino, largely under the architect Luciano Laurana. It served as the seat of the Montefeltro court and included Federico's Studiolo, a small study decorated with inlaid wood panels. The palace became a major center of Renaissance humanist culture.
