The palazzo retains its distinctive undulating brick facade and oval-domed hall designed by Guarino Guarini in the seventeenth century, along with later neoclassical additions on its garden front. It is state owned and houses the Museo Nazionale del Risorgimento Italiano. The building is open to the public as a ticketed museum devoted to Italian unification history.
About Palazzo Carignano
The Palazzo Carignano was built in the late seventeenth century by the architect Guarino Guarini as a residence for the princely Carignano branch of the House of Savoy. It was the birthplace of Victor Emmanuel II, later the first king of united Italy. The palace subsequently housed Italy's first national parliament after unification in 1861.
