HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Palazzo Barberini (Gallerie Nazionali d'Arte Antica).

Palazzo Barberini preserves its Baroque architecture, including the oval salone with Pietro da Cortona's ceiling fresco and the two grand staircases designed by Bernini and Borromini, and houses the collections of the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica. It is a state museum administered by Italy's Ministry of Culture. The palazzo is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Palazzo Barberini (Gallerie Nazionali d'Arte Antica)

Built for the Barberini family in the early seventeenth century after Maffeo Barberini became Pope Urban VIII, the palace was designed by Carlo Maderno, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and Francesco Borromini. Its ceiling fresco by Pietro da Cortona celebrated the family's power. It later became home to the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Antica's collection of Italian paintings.
