The palace survives substantially intact as a fortified stone residence with arcaded galleries and a central courtyard, and its upper corridor preserves a mural cycle painted by Diego Rivera. It is administered by Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History and houses the Museo Regional Cuauhnáhuac. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Palacio de Cortés, Cuernavaca
Hernán Cortés built this fortified residence in Cuernavaca in the 1520s and 1530s over an earlier Tlahuica structure. It served as his family's private palace and as an administrative center for his marquisate and sugar estates in the region. The building later housed colonial and state government offices and stood as a symbol of Spanish authority in Morelos.
