HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Old Fourah Bay College Building.

The building preserves its original nineteenth century masonry structure associated with Fourah Bay College, one of the oldest institutions of Western-style higher education in West Africa, though later additions and repairs have altered parts of the fabric. It is maintained by Fourah Bay College, part of the University of Sierra Leone. Access is generally limited, with the site viewable from the grounds rather than open for general public touring.

About Old Fourah Bay College Building

The Church Missionary Society founded Fourah Bay College in 1827 to train African clergy and teachers, making it the oldest Western-style university in West Africa. It later affiliated with Durham University and expanded into a broader liberal arts college. Its graduates became clergy, teachers, and civil servants across West Africa.
