HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Old Executive Mansion & Masonic Temple.

Little of the historic mansion and masonic hall complex in Monrovia is understood to remain in fully restored original condition, the buildings having sustained damage and alteration, particularly during Liberia's periods of civil conflict in the late twentieth century. The property is understood to fall under Liberian government and Masonic fraternal ownership. Public access is limited and is not generally provided on a regular visitor basis.

About Old Executive Mansion & Masonic Temple

Liberian officials built the Executive Mansion in Monrovia during the twentieth century to house the offices and residence of the Liberian president. A Masonic Temple was built nearby, reflecting the strong historical ties between Liberia's Freemasons and its ruling political class. Both buildings stood as symbols of the Americo-Liberian elite that dominated the government.
