About Old Calvert Foundry and Manufacturing Company
The Old Calvert Foundry was founded about 1870 as one of Calvert, Texas's first industries, its building made of local brick with an iron facade from St. Louis. Iron ore hauled by wagon from local deposits and from Cherokee County was forged there into farm tools and other implements. It was owned over time by prominent Texans, including incorporator J. Adoue, and served the region's agricultural economy.
HISTORY HAPPENED HERE at Old Calvert Foundry and Manufacturing Company
Founded about 1870 as one of Calvert's first industries. The building is of county-made brick; iron facade came from St. Louis. Iron ore from local deposits and from Cherokee County (100 mi. NE) was hauled here by horse-drawn wagons to be made into farm tools and other sturdy articles. Prominent Texans have owned this foundry. J.
