The Roman theater retains its stone cavea built into the slope of the Acropolis and a restored stage building facade, though its original marble seating and roof are largely gone. It is managed by the Greek Ministry of Culture as part of the Acropolis archaeological site. Access is generally limited to ticketed performances held there, rather than general sightseeing, though it can be viewed from outside.
About Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Athens
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus was built on the south slope of the Acropolis around 161 CE by the wealthy Athenian benefactor Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, Aspasia Regilla. The stone theater hosted music and poetry performances for the city's elite. It exemplified Roman-era patronage of Greek civic and cultural life under the empire.
