About Oakland Baptist Church
Oakland Baptist Church was organized in 1854 near Roans Prairie, with George W. Baines, great-grandfather of President Lyndon B. Johnson, serving as its first pastor. The congregation met in a schoolroom until building its first church in 1872, and the structure was relocated to its present site in 1913. The church anchored worship for the rural farming community.
HISTORY HAPPENED HERE at Oakland Baptist Church
Organized 1854. First pastor was George W. Baines, great grandfather of U.S. President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Congregation worshipped in school room till 1872 when present church was built.
