HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Numismatic Museum (Iliou Melathron).

The museum occupies the Iliou Melathron, the neoclassical mansion designed by Ernst Ziller as the residence of Heinrich Schliemann, whose ornate facade and much of its interior decoration survive intact. It is operated by the Greek Ministry of Culture as a state museum housing an extensive coin collection. The building is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Numismatic Museum (Iliou Melathron)

Iliou Melathron was built in the 1880s in Athens as the residence of the German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, designed by architect Ernst Ziller in a neoclassical style. Its name, meaning House of Troy, celebrated Schliemann's excavations at Troy and Mycenae. The building later housed government offices before holding the National Numismatic Museum.
