HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Norwich Cathedral, Norfolk.

The cathedral preserves its Norman nave and tower largely intact, along with a fourteenth century stone spire, extensive flint-faced cloisters, and the surrounding historic Close of residential and precinct buildings. It is owned and administered by the Church of England as the seat of the Bishop of Norwich, a listed building. It remains an active place of worship, freely open to visitors outside of services.

About Norwich Cathedral, Norfolk

Bishop Herbert de Losinga founded Norwich Cathedral in 1096 as seat of the Diocese of Norwich, replacing an earlier see at Thetford. Benedictine monks staffed the attached priory while construction in the Romanesque style continued using stone shipped from Normandy. It served for centuries as the region's principal religious center and a site of pilgrimage.
