About Nonsuch Palace Site, Surrey
Nonsuch Palace was built by Henry VIII beginning in 1538 as an opulent royal residence intended to rival French châteaux. Left unfinished at his death, it passed through several owners, including Henry FitzAlan and later the Earls of Arundel. It exemplified Tudor architectural ambition and courtly display before being demolished in the late seventeenth century.
