HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Nelson's Dockyard National Park.
Surviving structures include the restored Georgian era boat house and sail loft, officers' quarters, capstans, and stone wharves of the former British naval careenage, now adapted for use as a marina, hotel, and museum. The site is managed by the National Parks Authority of Antigua and Barbuda and forms part of the Antigua Naval Dockyard and Related Archaeological Sites World Heritage Site. It is open to the public on a ticketed basis.
About Nelson's Dockyard National Park
Nelson's Dockyard was built by the British Royal Navy in English Harbour, Antigua, during the eighteenth century as a base for careening, repairing, and provisioning warships. It took its name from Captain Horatio Nelson, who commanded the station in the 1780s and enforced trade restrictions against American shipping. The dockyard protected Britain's Caribbean fleet.
