HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Navan Fort (Emain Macha).

The site preserves the earthwork ramparts and mound of the Iron Age ceremonial complex, an entirely earthen monument with no standing stone structures, the original timber and cairn structures beneath the mound having been deliberately covered in antiquity. It is in state care under the Department for Communities' Historic Environment Division for Northern Ireland. It is freely accessible as open parkland, with an adjacent visitor center open separately on a ticketed basis.

About Navan Fort (Emain Macha)

Navan Fort was an Iron Age ceremonial site built by the Ulaid, whose great timber structure was raised and deliberately burned around the first century BCE. Tradition named it Emain Macha, legendary seat of the Ulster kings and setting for tales of the hero Cu Chulainn. It stood at the center of the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology.
