HISTORIC PRESERVATION at Museo Nacional de Escultura.

The museum occupies the former Colegio de San Gregorio, a late Gothic building with an elaborately carved facade and cloister, together with the neighboring Palacio de Villena, and houses an extensive collection of Spanish polychrome wood sculpture by artists such as Alonso Berruguete and Gregorio Fernández. It is a state museum administered by Spain's Ministry of Culture. The museum is open to the public on a ticketed basis.

About Museo Nacional de Escultura

Dominican friars built the Colegio de San Gregorio in Valladolid in the late fifteenth century as a college for training clergy. Spanish authorities converted the building into a national museum in 1842 to house polychrome religious sculpture confiscated from monasteries during the disentailment of church property. It became the country's principal repository of Castilian statuary.
